Emily in Paris Season 3
Episode No 1 Recap And Review
During the dramatic opening sequence at the Eiffel Tower, Emily in Paris season 3 episode 1 sees Emily caught between Sylvie and Madeline, with her two employers circling and pressing her for answers. When two women approach her, Emily moves backwards, falls from the roof, and later wakes up from her nightmare.
On her way to work with Mindy, Emily runs into Camille, who is picking up croissants for Gabriel for breaking her promise to Emily, and not only reconciles with her boyfriend, but moves into the same apartment complex with her. Camille tells her that Sylvie has approached her mother about getting the family's champagne company as a client for her new company. When Emily says she's trying to resolve the issue, Camille expresses her compassion and assures Emily that her family will continue to support the company she chooses to work for.
After a restless breakfast, Emily leaves to meet Madeline at the Savoir. Madeline appears from behind the door brandishing a package of "black market Fritos," as the employee prepares to announce her resignation to her manager. Before Emily gets a chance to speak, she is taken to a briefing with Gabriel and Antoine. Later, her ex-boyfriend Doug, now working as a global executive at McDonald's, calls Emily out of the blue and wants to hire Emily's company to promote Mc Baguette.
After finishing her conversation with Doug, Emily enters the group's new workplace at Sylvie's house and then serves Mc Baguette to address Sylvie's concerns. Emily's offer is later rejected by Sylvie because MC Donald's is not a luxury brand. Afterwards, a client meeting begins after Gabriel and Antoine arrive, shocking Emily as she saw them earlier at the Savoir.
After the meeting, Antoine leaves Emily with Gabriel, who asks if Emily is okay and what she did to her hair. He then invites him to McDonald's and offers to reserve a few tables at his restaurant for Alfie's farewell party when Alfie returns to London.
The next day, Emily returns to Sylvie's company and convinces Sylvie to have a discussion with a McBaguette client. Emily must host a client's dinner the same evening as Alfie's party. And Emily is confident that she can handle both events. Luc realizes he left his laptop at Savoir before leaving to join Sylvie, so he is asked to return to retrieve it.
When Luc visits Savoir, he runs into Madeline there and engages in a silly back-and-forth, revealing the truth about Emily working for Sylvie in the process. Things go awry when Luc spills the beans on a McBaguette customer meal that night, inadvertently encouraging Madeline—who is understandably angry about the crash.
Emily wears a feathered coat from her nightmare while on the roof of the Eiffel Tower in the evening. Standing behind Emily, Sylvie lights a cigarette and begins to wonder how Madeline responded to Emily's resignation. However, before she can answer, Sylvie very politely introduces herself as her new mentor, revealing a fresh, compassionate side of herself. Their happy moments are then interrupted by the appearance of a McDonalds representative.
Alfie's farewell party begins as Mindy accompanies him to the cafeteria for farewell drinks with Camille and Gabriel. Of course, Alfie realizes Emily isn't there, but is quickly distracted by Antoine, who gives him his favorite cologne as a farewell gift. While they're busy talking about business, Mindy runs around the corner to take a call from the manager of the venue where she and her band are playing. While this is great news and he claims to love her, the place only wants Mindy to play regularly, not the rest of the band. This could spell trouble for Mindy given the already messy state of her relationship with Benoit.
Thanks to Madeline, the whole evening is a big mess and it's getting worse. A customer from McDonald's leaves after Madeline spills water on Sylvie's shoes. Emily volunteers to go to the hospital with Madeline, but she declines as the ambulance rides. Once alone, Emily tries to explain herself to Sylvie, but Sylvie dismisses her.
When Emily goes to Alfie's party, Emily can't walk for very long. Unfortunately, the seats are packed now and there are fewer people when he arrives. Alfie leaves the venue as Emily enters. He believes that Emily has already prioritized her career over their relationship, and when he fails to inform her of when he will be in London, he quotes Sartre as saying that "not choosing is still a choice" from Sartre before starting work. a waiting car and speeds off into the Parisian night.
Episode Review
Emily's decision to stay in Paris is revealed in the episode. Additionally, Emily has a crisis when she has to tell Madeline that she chose to work for Sylvie while she was pregnant. Despite the heartwarming and dramatic nature of the show, Emily works at both competing companies at the same time, which seems very unrealistic.
The show's characters see no repercussions for their actions. In this episode we see Camille break her contract with Emily and Emily just lets it slide. Plus, Camille doesn't feel any remorse, which is pretty weird. Although Emily and Camille betray each other on various occasions, Camille continues to tell Emily "I'm faithful to you" to no avail.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Sylvie firing Emily and Madeline discovering the truth about Emily switching jobs twice. Also, Alfie leaves the restaurant after being extremely disappointed with Emily. It will be interesting to see where this season goes.
