The White Lotus HBO Series Season 2 episode 4 Recap and Review

In the sandbox

The girls (Daphne and Harper) and the boys (Cameron and Ethan) agree to abide by gender codes and promise not to say anything about their night in The White Lotus season 2 episode 4.

Lucia and Mia are sent off by Cam and the girls get high on drugs. They decide to lie "somewhere" and then take it from there. Valentina sees Isabella in a new light after she gives a sudden adoration speech for the manager. During the conversation, Isabella takes Dominic to a local jewelry store. He wants to give something to his wife. Valentina tells Isabella to come to her if she is having trouble at work or anything.

At breakfast, Portia apologizes to Albie for leaving her the other night. He promises to have fun at dinner. Tanya reveals Greg's betrayal to Portia. Quentin, the guy from the previous episode, meets Taya in the hallway and invites her and Portia to dinner at the beach club. Tanya accepts and feels warm about Quentin. Lucia suddenly has an existential crisis. He feels that he cannot continue to sin by selling his body and apologizes to Mia for pushing him to do so. He fears being judged when his time is up and can't bear to face the bailiff.

After the girls see Bert gone, they decide to use his room where he still has the key. As they leave their room, Burt accidentally walks in on Mia, half-naked, and amuses her. Quentin and his "gay" group are very welcoming to girls. It turns out that last night's guy is Englishman Jack. He is Quentin's nephew and knows Portia from the pool. They talk about Essex and the exchange turns flirtatious rather quickly. Quentin stays with Matteo in Palermo and shows some friends around.

An elderly matriarch lived there and refused to sell the island house to investors. He was killed under mysterious circumstances. Writing this, Tanya begins to tell her story to Quentin, who listens breathlessly. Harper starts eating as soon as she gets to her room. But her angry mood is broken when she sees the package of condoms Cam left on the couch. She assumes the worst and hangs up, wondering what Ethan is up to.

The moment of reckoning has come for their relationship. During lunch, Albie is downstairs where he can see Portia and Jack flirting with each other. He even refuses Lucia and Mia the seat next to his chair waiting for Portia. Albie decides to go to them, but Portia shoots him down.

He then goes on to join Dom and Bert for dinner, but gets upset when Dom tries to manipulate him into putting in a good word for Dom to his mother. Harper is still acting fast, making the other three uncomfortable. Mia has an epiphany where she says she is going to sleep with Giuseppe to get a boost in her career.

Lucia tries to stop her, but Mia has already made up her mind. He regrets what a "monster" he has created. Quentin encourages Tanya to have a good time and invites her to see his boat and house in Palermo. Lucia sits with Albie after Portia dumps her. They start talking and it's hard to tell if he's being genuine or if he's on 'business'.

It's a funny sequence because he can't "stand up". Mia retrieves Viagra pills from Lucia's purse, but isn't sure which ones. Lucia and Albie are in the water and Mia can't help it when she asks about the pills.

Mia doesn't know what she gave Giuseppe, but she continues to do it. They are unable to have sex, but Giuseppe promises to help Mia anyway. Harper is still struggling with what she found on the couch, but she can't confront Ethan about it. It works but fails. They still go out to dinner together that night. Giuseppe has a heart attack and an ambulance is called. Jack and Portia are drinking at a bar, where they see Albie and Lucia. Bert sees Lucia and Albie talking while Dominic looks away. Lucia helps Albie "win" over Portia and kisses her to make her jealous.

Valentina forgives her feelings for Isabella when she brings him a starfish pendant from a jewelry store. Unlike Spillers (or at least Harper), Sullivan sleeps peacefully. Lucia and Albie go to her room together, but apparently money is not involved. Portia and Jack also have a night to themselves, revealing that Albie and Portia have gone their separate ways.

  Episode Review

Things were supposed to heat up in episode 4 now that the season is halfway through. Very subtly, the writers steered the story towards a conclusion and a tectonic shift in character dynamics. Harper cuts an isolated figure after discovering a condom wrapper Cam left on Ethan's couch.

In many cases, despite the alleged moral superiority over the Sullivans in their relationship, a lack of communication between the couple was revealed. It was quite ironic how the tables had turned and the huge disparity between the truth and the fiction the Harpers had created for themselves.

He defied the odds and all the limits of his character by performing and selling himself.

The saddest thing was how easily he slipped into his new reality chasing after his big dream. Lucia is somehow turned upside down and this role reversal doesn't look good at all. The main tension in episode 4 was somewhat offset by a happy ending for Tanya.

His meeting with the "homosexuals" was perhaps the only saving grace for us in this episode. Coolidge is so funny and sad at the same time, you really can't tell the difference.
