Emily in Paris Season 3

Episode No 10 Recap And Review

Gabriel takes restaurant ownership to heart at the beginning of episode 10 for Emily Season 3 in Paris. After taking on a bigger role in his company, he's remodeling the space.

Grandma Gigi, whom Camille despises, inspired Gabriel's new name for his restaurant. When he comes over, he immediately connects with Emily in an open and subtle way. Gabriel and Camille throw a party to commemorate their engagement, and while she has a tense exchange with Gigi at Gabriel's house, Camille invites Emily, Alfie, Mindy and Nicolas.

Julien tells everyone at work that he has a scheduled meeting with Turner & Ascot, a British suit brand. In addition, he makes it very clear that he will create a pitch deck.

Emily shares Gabriel's desire to win a Michelin star with her workplace, but Sylvie makes it clear that since the examiners are untraceable, there's nothing they can do to help. However, Luc meets one! It just so happens that Luc's ex-partner is a Michelin examiner. In the past, he dated Marianne until she revealed that she was an inspector; as a result, their relationship ended. As Emily walks to dinner with Mindy, she texts Marianne and promises to exemplify her ability to keep a secret.

Although we have no sense of time in this sequence, when Emily and Mindy sit down for dinner, we realize that quite a bit of time has passed. Mindy complains about Nico's busy social schedule. Camille and Sofia distract them during dinner. Emily walks over to their table to greet them. Sofia claims that she intends to return to Paris often, although Camille struggles to end things between them.

After leaving the restaurant, Mindy adjusts her irrevocable proposal to Emily. Mindy suggests that since Camille and Gabriel are now officially together and engaged, Emily should tell her about Sofia.

When the dining room opens, Camille is wearing an engagement ring given to her by her fiancé's grandmother, who doesn't like her. Nicolas does not attend the meal with Alfie, Emily and Mindy. Alfie has a side chat with Mindy and continues to explain what really happened between Nicolas and Emily when Emily barges into the kitchen while the Michelin expert is there. Skeptical at first, Mindy quickly comes around and apologizes to Emily for her boyfriend's behavior towards her.

After dinner, an extremely dramatic argument ensues at Nicholas's house, during which Mindy accuses him of "swelling up" with Emily and tells him to "think hard" about their relationship before they leave.

The next day at work, Julien's pitch works great until Emily runs it. When Julien finally loses it, he yells. That evening, he sends an undisclosed email saying he might be considering joining a new agency.

While we wait for Nikolas to respond, Gabriel and Camille's engagement party date arrives, Emily arrives and Mindy is nowhere to be found. Instead, she waits patiently at home for a message from Nicholas, and he stops responding to her after their argument. Although it appears the two will be dating and partying together, he doesn't hold up his end of the deal. Benoit goes down as Nico horribly runs from behind. He explains to Mindy that he has decided to submit his music to Eurovision and that's why he won't let her use him for a sunscreen commercial. He says they can get inside.

After Emily comes back from outside, she goes into the party room for a drink and overhears Camille talking about "working things out". He then naturally asks if Sofia is on the line as well and admits that he witnessed the two of them making out. He continues to ask Emily. In the end, Camille dismisses Emily's concerns and leaves.

When Camille's father wants to toast the couple, Mindy arrives in a helicopter with Nicholas, who appears after all, and manages to steal the show. After they arrive, Emily accepts Nicholas's apology, so it seems that all is well between these two rivals.

When Gabriel is close to earning a Michelin star, Luc decides to call Emily to share the news. They get emotional after Emily decides to pull Gabriel aside to inform him and Camille witnesses the whole thing. However, Gabriel returns to tell his fiancée the good news about the star and, encouraged by her success, proposes that they get married that very night.

Kamil collapses as the couple recites their vows. "You don't have to do this," she whispers between vows. Camille accuses Gabriel and Emily of being lovers from the beginning. Consequently, Camille strains the bond between Alfie and Emily as a result of her leaving Gabriel at the altar. After that, Alfie leaves Emily saying, "I'm nobody's second choice."

In a secluded area, Emily and Gabriel have a private meeting. He begins to explain that even though he always had feelings for her, he truly believed he was acting morally by supporting the treaty. Finally, we find out that Camille is pregnant.

In Paris, Laurent starts an exclusive club. He adds that Sylvie can help him attract a fashionable audience. However, Laurent reveals that the anonymous investor is Louis de Léon as they happily dance on the sidewalks of Paris and Sylvie says things like, "I don't know what to do with all this happiness."

  Episode Review

Still, the show follows the trend of offering a solution before the problem actually develops. The show quickly moves in that direction when Luc's ex-boyfriend is revealed to be an examiner who could award Gabriel's restaurant with a Michelin star.

The idea of unconventional relationships between all the characters seems to be a theme the show is trying to push. What's strange about Emily in Paris is that almost every character is involved in a complex three-person relationship, to a point where it's normalized and justified.

The plot of this episode - and the entire show as a whole - is poorly written. All the secondary characters and the main character are confused individuals who can't commit to anything (and not in a complex, nuanced way), including their relationships, work, and in the case of Camille and Emily, their friendships.

At this point, the point of the show is simply to heighten the pointless, sometimes illogical, drama between the characters. For example, in the season finale, Camille dumps Gabriel at the altar and we learn that she is carrying Gabriel's child. The final episode is so poorly written that it feels like a trashy Indian daily soap.

We get to see more of Luc in the final episode, which is fantastic. While Luc is an interesting secondary character, the show hasn't done much to explore his character before. We get to see him meet Marianne in this episode, and it's pretty fun.

There are a lot of unanswered questions in the finale that, assuming there is one, will be resolved in the upcoming season. Emily's relationship with Gabriel and Alfie, Mindy's relationship with Nicolas and Benoit, and Sylvie's relationship with Laurent are still to be investigated.
