Season 1 Episode 3
However, Balor's beast is still circling the air, and they run into Meldof, who shamelessly rips off Arnie, saying "if you want to live, come with me."
Meldof brings them to his cave where he feeds them and learns of their bloody exploits, destroying all these armies and reaching this place. Syndril suggests that they become one to defeat Balor's winged nightmare, and that they can create their own creature to combat it by combining the beast's biological essence with their own.
The transformation will be long and painful, but before that, they need some herbs. Eile believes that she is part of this prophecy and must sacrifice herself. Fjall tries to convince him not to, telling him to live. But he takes her hand and shrugs her shoulders saying that all his songs have been sung.
With the potion prepared, Eile stands up and presents herself as a sacrifice. Last supper complete with music and games. Scian isn't about to be amused and heads off knowing his little stunt on the Xin'Trea stairs might be his last. Fjall and Eile end up exchanging a kiss in the middle of this as lightning flashes along with dramatic music and thunder.
When Eile wakes up, she finds herself alone and is horrified to learn that it was Fjall who took the first potion in her place. There seems to be no way to reverse this and instead they are forced to move on.
Meanwhile, Merwyn the Massacre has his wizard find a book hidden under some floorboards. Avallac'h returns it to Merwyn, where he hints that he can open the floodgates. That is, until Balor exerts his powers and forces him against the wall with his staff.
Before throwing Avallac'h, Erendir manages to distract him from the case by stabbing his accomplice. Eventually, Balor confesses and is arrested, while Mervyn is more determined than ever to open the gates. However, Avallac's power is not strong enough, so they cannot open it. They need Balor's magic.
Elsewhere, Geldof decides to go out in a blaze of glory and band together with this motley crew, determined to reunite with his girlfriend when it's all said and done. But Scian is not there. Instead, he decided to betray them all by going to meet Merwyn, claiming important information about Fjall.
Scian demands good money in exchange for the handover of Fjall and Eile. Not only that, but he also demands his family's holy sword, the Soulreaver, as payment. Oh, and he wants to help 50 Golden Imperial soldiers bring him back safely. Mervyn agrees and they leave.
Mervin heads out to see Balor next and asks for his help. This cell seems to suppress magic, but Mervyn decides that they should work together and form the power of the elven species as a duo. He wants his student Fenrik to be with him.
Scian confronts Fjall and he realizes that he is the one using the elixir. None of them bother to ask where he is, it turns out that this double cross is nothing, he just recruited these soldiers to kill them! He wanted to kill all these soldiers and take their armor for himself so that they could pretend to be soldiers. It turns out that Geldof is also an amazing shot with the bow as well as a skilled hammer wielder. Who knew!
So leave this lot, deciding to use a makeshift Trojan Horse plan to get into Xin'Trea. As they stand at the gates, Fjall struggles to control his powers until Eile begins to play him a tune.
Episode Review
So the penultimate episode of The Witcher: Blood Origin sees our characters all come together to Xin'Trea, ready to shape the future and destroy the Empire. In terms of world building, this show has been pretty weak. We were told that the Kingdom was starving, but we never once got it right.
Meanwhile, none of the characters have an iota of growth beyond a few revelations about their pasts. They are all skilled fighters and magicians, meaning any threat to them is completely negated. While they're not outright Mary Sue characters, they're certainly close.
With the next finale, Blood Origin could have knocked it out of the park with a solid final chapter, but even so, it was a very weak and bland attempt at fantasy.
