Reboot Season 1 Episode 6 Preview and Review

Reboot Season 1

Episode 6 Preview & Review

In Reboot Season 1 Episode 6, Reed is placed in the same hotel as Bree and has to convince his girlfriend, Nora, that there is nothing between them.

This proves difficult for Reed, who continues to confront Bree, forcing him to play a game they enjoyed while dating. Finally, he relents and even agrees to have dinner with Bree at his old favorite restaurant.

Before they meet for dinner, Bree overhears Reed telling Nora that he loves her. Realizing that they can't get their old relationship back, she breaks up with Reed.

Meanwhile, Clay tries to follow the steps in the AA program: one of them is making amends. She apologizes to director Jerry for all the trouble she caused her by constantly appearing drunk or high on the set of Step Right Up. But it is clear that his heart is not sorry.

Jerry calls him out on it and even blames Clay for costing Emmy. So Clay finds the real apology in himself. In fact, he has so many people to apologize to for the terrible things he's done in the past that it's really overwhelming. But she feels truly sorry for Jerry, who accepts her heartfelt apology.

Zack gets HR's approval to invite his colleague on one condition: if he says no at first, he can't invite him more than once.

But Hanna is embarrassed and runs out of the room, so Gordon confronts her. She admits that she feels it's her fault that she struggles with emotional intimacy. Eventually, he was able to convince her to be confident and ask to see Mallory. He does and Mallory accepts.

Zack also builds up the confidence to ask Elaine to see a movie. But as he feared, he says no, which means he's lost his only shot. Elaine says she likes him, but she also likes her job. If people knew that she was dating an actor on her first show, no one would take her seriously.

Zack goes to see a movie alone, but is surprised when Elaine arrives. It can't hurt for two co-workers to accidentally run into each other, right?

  Episode Review

Overall, this was a compelling episode for Reboot. Clay's character gets even more fleshed out as he spends a few minutes in the recovery process. Hannah and Gordon share believable interactions that help their relationship but don't directly repair it. And Zack and Elaine's chemistry blossoms.

My main complaint is that we lack context for Clay's struggles with substance abuse and Bree and Reed's rocky relationship. As for much of the show's conflict, little is shown and the audience is told much.
