Reboot Season 1 Episode 4 Preview and Review

Reboot Season 1

Episode 4 Preview & Review

In Reboot Season 1 Episode 4, Bree wakes up next to Timberly, who assures her that she had a great time last night and that they can still be friends.

At the shoot, Reed has to make sure that Bree knows that he doesn't have feelings for her, despite what she said when she called him last night. He tells her not to worry; he had fun with someone else last night.

This other one, Reed later learns, was Timberly. Reed immediately tells Clay, who thinks Timberly is trying to stir up drama on the reality TV show "Fuck Buddy Mountain."

Gordon overhears their conversation and goes to the gossip writers' room. All the talk about sex leads to a realization for Hannah: She's thirty years old and has never come out to her father as gay.

Meanwhile, Zack and Elaine have lunch to talk business. Zack, of course, quickly turns this into an opportunity to have fun. He talks the workaholic into going around the set with him. They try on costumes, steal bikes and run around causing mayhem.

But a run-in with Elaine's boss stops them in their tracks. Elaine is quick to apologize for her actions, but it turns out she's glad to see him having fun. He says that he works so hard that the whole team is worried about him.

"Look, it's the TV," Zach said after leaving. "Everything is always okay." Zack then tells her that it's fun to be together. Elaine says no one has ever told her that.

During rehearsal, Reed and Clay notice that Bre freely decides to give Timberly one of her lines. Clay believes that this is typical Timberly, or rather "Sin-berly" as he is known on the reality show.

Clay and Reed bring up Timberly's reputation to Bree, who now wonders if Timberly has been manipulating her the whole time. She confronts Timberly, but it backfires when she reveals to Bree that her entire reality TV show is scripted.

Bree is now angry at Reed and Clay for making her look like a fool. He tells Reed to understand that they are no longer a couple. He cannot act as her protector.

After much discussion, Hanna finally comes out to Gordon. Not for his approval, she insists. He just thinks he needs to know.

To Hannah's surprise, Gordon always knew. And anyway, he calls himself an "extraordinary filmmaker" in interviews. Hannah is impressed that Gordon cares enough about her to follow her career.

 Episode Review

"Girlfriends" gives us plenty of sweet moments, perhaps promising new beginnings between the characters. We mostly see Hannah and Gordon in the middle of a conflict – but the ending of this episode shows the potential for them to bond. Zack and Elaine may also have more in common than they or anyone else realizes.

The reboot often goes beyond jokes about generational differences (they tend to be cheap shots). However, Bree's misunderstandings about sexuality and etiquette invited light enough roasting to be funny and not overplayed.

But for Bree and Reed, there was a conflict ripe for this episode that the writers simply chose not to dig into. Reed clearly still has feelings for Bree, and his intervention should result in more friction between the former couple. As it was, Reed received only a mild reprimand.

There's more history to explore between Judy Greer and Keegan-Michael Key's characters. Hopefully Reboot won't shy away from the added strain.
